How one-way rental works
A one-way rental lets you collect the car in one place and return it in another – for example at Izmir Airport and Antalya Airport. It suits road trips along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, where flying into one airport and out of another saves a long drive back.
Not every company offers it. Many Turkish rental companies are local and work within one region, so a drop-off in a nearby town or at the regional airport is often possible, while a return hundreds of kilometres away is offered only by companies with offices in both places, or for a fee to bring the car back.
The one-way fee
The fee covers getting the car back to the company’s base. It depends on the distance, the season and the company: within one region – Antalya Airport to Alanya, or Dalaman Airport to Fethiye – it can be small, while between regions it can add a large amount to the price. Before you pay, check that the fee is included in the total or listed in the terms, and that the drop-off address and opening hours are confirmed.

Classic road trips
- Aegean to the Turquoise Coast (7–10 days): fly into Izmir, then drive to Ephesus and Kuşadası, Pamukkale, Fethiye and Kalkan and Kaş, and return the car at Antalya Airport.
- Bodrum to Dalaman (5–7 days): from Bodrum to Marmaris and the Bozburun peninsula, Dalyan and Fethiye – a short one-way within one province, often the cheapest kind.
- Istanbul to the Aegean (10 days or more): collect the car on the day you leave Istanbul, then drive via Bursa to Izmir and Çeşme, Ephesus and Bodrum.
- Cappadocia to the coast: from Kayseri via Göreme and Konya to Antalya. It is a long drive, so plan an overnight stop.
How to book
- Search from your pickup airport or town and your dates.
- Choose a different return location where the search offers it, or check the offer terms for one-way returns. If the drop-off you need is not shown, ask Localrent support before booking.
- Compare the total price including the one-way fee, not the daily rate.
- Check the drop-off opening hours; returns outside them can cost extra.
- Remember that motorway tolls are billed after the rental through the car’s HGS tag, whichever office you return to.
When a round trip is cheaper
If the one-way fee is high, compare it with a loop that brings you back to the same airport – for example Dalaman, Kalkan, Kaş and back to Dalaman – or with two shorter rentals in different regions, linked by a domestic flight or a long-distance coach. Turkey has frequent domestic flights from Istanbul to Izmir, Antalya, Dalaman, Bodrum and Kayseri. Rental cars cannot be returned in another country: most companies do not allow them to leave Turkey.
