Why rental companies ask for a credit card
A credit card lets the company block the security deposit without taking the money, and charge later costs such as tolls or fines. That is why international brands at Turkish airports usually require a credit card in the main driver’s name and will not hand over the car without one.
Many local companies work differently. They accept a debit card or cash for the deposit and the balance, or rent without a deposit at all.
Payment options you may see
| Payment | Typical methods | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Online advance | Bank card when you book | How much is paid now and how much at pickup. |
| Balance at pickup | Cash, debit or credit card, depending on the offer | Accepted currencies and methods. |
| Security deposit | None, cash, debit card or credit card hold | Amount, method and how it is returned. |
Renting with a debit card
Offers marked no credit card accept other payment methods at pickup. Where a debit card is accepted for the deposit, the amount is usually taken from your account and refunded after the rental, which can take several days to reach you. Bring the card in the main driver’s name.
Paying in cash
Some local companies accept cash for the balance and the deposit. The offer or the company confirms which currency it accepts. Count the money at the handover and ask for a written receipt, then keep it with your rental agreement.
