What to see with a rental car

Izmir is Turkey’s third city, stretched around a long bay. The seafront Kordon, the Kemeraltı bazaar and the clock tower in Konak are its heart, and the city is relaxed by Turkish standards.

Two tolled motorways make it a fast base: west to the Çeşme peninsula and its beaches, south towards Ephesus. Urla’s vineyards, the fishing town of Foça and ancient Pergamon are within easy reach too.

  • Konak Square, the clock tower and the Kemeraltı bazaar
  • The Kordon seafront at sunset
  • Alaçatı’s windmills and stone houses
  • Urla’s vineyards and Foça’s harbours
  • Pergamon’s acropolis above Bergama

Konak and Kemeraltı

Alsancak and the Kordon

Urla and the Çeşme peninsula

Urla has a growing wine route and a pretty old town. Further west, Alaçatı is known for stone houses, windmills and windsurfing, and Çeşme for its castle, marina and beaches.
