What to see with a rental car

Belek is home to many of Turkey’s championship golf courses, set among pine forest behind long sandy beaches. Most visitors stay in large resort hotels, and the area is quiet outside them.

A car turns Belek into a base for the Antalya region: Aspendos and Perge are each under half an hour away, Antalya’s old town about 40 minutes, and Side less than an hour.

  • Championship golf courses among the pines
  • The Roman theatre at Aspendos
  • The ancient city of Perge
  • Kaleiçi, Antalya’s old town and harbour
  • The Land of Legends theme park nearby

What to see in and around Belek, area by area

The golf belt

Belek is Turkey’s golf capital, with over a dozen championship courses set in pine forest behind the beaches. Even if you do not play, the forest roads between the clubs make Belek greener and calmer than most resorts.

Kadriye and Boğazkent

The neighbouring resort zones have their own beaches and restaurants. Kadriye is home to The Land of Legends theme park, and Boğazkent sits at the mouth of the Köprüçay river, with fishing boats and a more local feel.

Aspendos and Sillyon

Aspendos has one of the best-preserved Roman theatres in the world and long stretches of aqueduct across the plain. The hilltop ruins of Sillyon, closer to Belek, are far less visited and give wide views towards the mountains.

Perge and Antalya

Perge, with its stadium, gates and colonnaded streets, is half an hour away. Continue to Antalya for the old town and the archaeological museum, where many of Perge’s statues are displayed.

Belek’s beaches and where to park

Belek beach and the turtles

Belek’s long sandy beaches are a nesting site for loggerhead turtles. From May to October, hotels clear sunbeds at night and lights are limited. Never drive or park on the sand, and leave nests undisturbed.

Boğazkent

A quieter village beach at the river mouth with local fish restaurants. Parking is easier than in the hotel zone.

Kadriye

Long sandy beaches near The Land of Legends, with public access between the hotels. Parking is on side roads and at public entrances.

Best time to go

When to visit Belek and rent a car

Belek has two seasons. Golfers come in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when it is cooler, and beach holidays peak in summer. Published rental averages are lowest in February at about €26 a day and highest in July at about €63, so golf weeks in March or November often come with much lower rental prices.

Before you book

Deposit, payment card and tolls: know the difference before you book

These three conditions cause most surprises at a rental desk in Belek. Each offer shows them before you pay.

No Deposit

Many local suppliers rent without a security deposit or accept it in cash. Others block an amount on a card until the car is returned. The offer shows which.

No Credit Card

Local suppliers commonly accept a debit card or cash at pickup. International brands usually want a credit card in the main driver’s name.

Motorway tolls (HGS)

Turkish toll roads are fully electronic. Rental cars carry an HGS tag and the company charges the tolls after the rental, so ask how it bills them.

Driving in Belek: parking, roads and tips

Getting around

Belek’s hotel strip has quiet roads; the D400 is a few minutes inland and has no tolls.

Golf bags

Two or more golf bags rarely fit an economy car. Filter for estates, SUVs or minivans.

Parking

Most hotels have parking. In Antalya old town, use the paid car parks around Kaleiçi.

Hotel roads

The roads between the large hotels have speed bumps, pedestrian crossings and hotel shuttles. Keep speeds low, especially in the evening.

Reaching the D400

Belek connects to the D400 via a few main junctions, which are busy at hotel check-in times. The airport is about 40 minutes away.

No driving on beaches

Driving or parking on the sand is forbidden, and it is especially harmful in turtle season. Use marked car parks only.

Good to know in Turkey

  1. Drive on the right and overtake on the left.
  2. Speed limits for cars are usually 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on two-way roads, 110 km/h on divided roads and 130 km/h on motorways. Follow the signs.
  3. The alcohol limit for car drivers is 0.5 g/l. The safest choice is not to drink at all.
  4. Seat belts are compulsory in every seat; phones only hands-free.
  5. Motorway, bridge and some tunnel tolls are electronic. Do not stop at the toll gates.
  6. In an accident, call the rental company first and follow its instructions. Insurance usually needs an official report.
