What to see in and around Fethiye, area by area

Fethiye town

Lycian rock tombs, including the Tomb of Amyntas, are cut into the cliffs above the town. Below, the Paspatur old bazaar and the fish market are lively: you buy fish at the market and the surrounding restaurants cook it for you.

Ölüdeniz and Babadağ

The Blue Lagoon at Ölüdeniz is a protected nature park with an entry fee. Above it, paragliders take off from Babadağ mountain, which a cable car now climbs for views over the whole coast.

Kayaköy and the Lycian Way

The abandoned stone village of Kayaköy sits in a valley between Fethiye and Ölüdeniz. The Lycian Way long-distance trail starts nearby and leads towards Faralya and Butterfly Valley.

Inland and the Göcek coves

Saklıkent Gorge, ancient Tlos and the trout restaurants of Yaka Park make a classic inland day. West of town, Göcek is the base for boat trips around the islands of the gulf.

Beaches around Fethiye and where to park

Çalış Beach

A long beach north of the town with a promenade and some of the best sunsets on the coast. Parking is along the beach road and side streets.

Ölüdeniz and Belcekız

Belcekız is the open beach in front of the village; the lagoon is a nature park with entry by car or on foot. Paid car parks fill by midday in summer.

Gemiler Beach

A small pebble beach facing Gemiler Island, with its Byzantine ruins, reached via Kayaköy. There is paid parking by the beach and boats to the island.

Kabak Bay

A wild bay at the bottom of a steep track. Park at the top and walk, or use the local shuttle; the walk back up is hard in summer heat.

To Ölüdeniz

The road climbs over the hill through Ovacık and Hisarönü, then drops steeply to the lagoon.

Faralya and Kabak

The road to Butterfly Valley viewpoints and Kabak is narrow with steep drops. A small car is easier.

Down to Ölüdeniz

Babadağ

The road up Babadağ is steep and partly unpaved. Take the cable car instead and leave the rental car below.

Market day

Fethiye’s big market is held on Tuesday along the canal. Expect slow traffic and full car parks in the centre that day.
